Interoperability is at the core of our latest update to the eSync specification, which
officially launches tomorrow.
Our Technical and Compliance Working Groups have driven forward Version 2.2,
which makes it easier to create interoperable products, with the goal of reducing
systems integration timeframes and cost. This latest development means that
devices with clients and agents from numerous sources can quickly be integrated
into the common OTA data pipeline, ensuring that eSync compliance has a clear
and meaningful benefit for all.
With greater interoperability comes the potential for increased collaboration amongst
OEM and Tier-1 stakeholders. As a not-for-profit trade body, the eSync Alliance has
been forthright in its belief that co-operation is key to delivering digital transformation
within the automotive industry. A standardized OTA data pipeline is a fundamental to
achieving this goal. At the same time, the eSync Alliance’s Compliance Working
Group has launched an eSync Agent Validation Tool, providing users with a robust

platform to test their eSync implementations. The web-based platform includes a
specific development tool that allows for full OTA message testing. Its launch gives
Tier-1 suppliers confidence that an implementation is both compliant and
interoperable with other manufacturers’ devices.
Speaking about the specification update, our Executive Director, Mike Gardner, said:
“With Version 2.2 of our specification, we’re standardizing the standard. Users of
eSync technology can rest assured that, by implementing the latest edition of the
specification and making use of the Agent Validation Tool, they’re able to create
interoperable solutions that will shape the software defined vehicles (SDVs) of the
future. Version 2.2 is about practical improvements that make eSync technology a
consistent solution for OEMs and Tier-1s, and is the step change that will facilitate
significant growth in the years to come.”
For Tier-1 suppliers, a fully interoperable, standardized approach to OTA enables
businesses to confidently supply an OTA-ready product to OEMs, safe in the
knowledge that it can be easily integrated into the platform architecture. A key
benefit for automakers is that, by sourcing interoperable OTA devices, much of the
OTA infrastructure is already in place. This not only saves time and reduces
development costs, but it can also allow for greater scalability across models.
