Incredible growth and progress for the Alliance
Dear Friends,
I am deeply grateful to hear from each of you – whether we first connected through work, mutual friends, or our shared alma mater. Your relationships have evolved from acquaintanceships into meaningful connections that I value.
Rather than sending individual responses to your kind messages, I wanted to share something more substantial with all of you. Your continued support and engagement bring me tremendous satisfaction.
As you know, eSync Alliance operates as a trade consortium built entirely on volunteer contributions. Our mission stems from a genuine desire to benefit the automotive industry by advancing standardization in software updates and connectivity management. Everything we do aims to reduce costs, enhance interoperability, and, most importantly, eliminate the costly cycle of reinventing solutions every few years.
Having participated in three standards organizations (JPEG/MPEG, Ethernet 1722/802.1AS, and now eSync), I understand the magnitude of what it takes to shape an entire industry. The most rewarding aspect has been working with dedicated individuals, thanking them for their contributions, persuading sceptics of our vision, and motivating others to actively participate in the Alliance.
Through a combination of good timing and fortunate circumstances, the eSync standard now stands on solid ground. OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers are beginning to recognize that these benefits extend to everyone. After all, the transformative potential of agentic AI and generative AI will be severely limited if we continue managing customized, end-to-end pipelines.
The tremendous support and contributions from our member organizations, along with the individuals who represent them and our volunteer executive team, have been instrumental in maintaining our momentum and keeping our shared vision alive.
Please keep your encouragement coming.
Shrikant, Chair eSync Alliance
The vital role of semiconductors in OTA technology
Semiconductors are instrumental in many aspects of technology but especially in terms of Over-The-Air updates. Our latest blog article discusses the vital role that semiconductor firms play in OTA standardization.
The eSync Alliance has recently welcomed semiconductor businesses, Renesas and ARM, two partners who are essential to standardizing a bi-directional data pipe for OTA updates and confidential data sharing.
ARM joins as a Charter Member, representing the first major processor company to come in at our highest membership tier. ARM’s proven architecture creates a foundation for making vehicle updates seamless, helping the sector reduce the risk of costly recalls. They join Texas Instruments, an existing member specializing in semiconductors and an eSync Board member. Click here to read more.
eSync expands into India with major OEM partnerships
The eSync Alliance has expanded significantly into the Indian automotive market, with major domestic and international manufacturers implementing the standard for OTA vehicle updates. This is an important development, given that India is the world’s fourth-largest automotive producer and takes up a significant portion of the market by sales, offering significant growth potential and possible demand for connected vehicle technologies.
Leading Indian automotive conglomerates are implementing eSync across their businesses, including in manufacturing and consulting. A prominent car manufacturer in Japan, with significant manufacturing operations in India, is also using eSync’s technology in its vehicle platforms, which suggests that momentum is slowly building in that region too.
It is possible that India’s adoption could accelerate deployment on a global scale, as manufacturers validate the technology in one of the world’s most demanding automotive markets. Read more here.
eSync Alliance featured in Automotive World
Automotive World has published a feature about the critical need for standardization in OTA software updates across the automotive sector, written by our Executive Director, Mike Gardner.
The report examines critical fragmentation challenges plaguing the automotive industry, particularly around software updates and what experts call “innovation paralysis.” It highlights significant security vulnerabilities created by multiple update pathways within vehicle architectures, which demand robust new protocols to manage safely. A key concern is the integration of components from different suppliers. When these diverse parts come together in a single vehicle, they can delay essential security updates by several months.
In the report, Mike also explores promising solutions emerging from the industry’s standardization movement. There is a clear path forward, showing how greater standardization can resolve these fragmentation issues while delivering substantial benefits for automakers who embrace these new approaches.
