Helping Automakers Secure the Software-Defined Vehicle: GuardKnox Joins eSync Alliance

Silicon Valley, CA, March 28, 2023 – The eSync Alliance, a global network of co-operating suppliers established to build a high-confidence, multi-vendor path for end-to-end secure over-the-air (OTA) updates and data services, announced that GuardKnox has joined the Alliance.

There are genuine challenges to creating a software defined vehicle – a vehicle that manages its operations, adds functionality, and enables new features through software. Cars are complex systems, with as many as 100 software-driven Electronic Control Units (ECUs) from multiple suppliers per vehicle. Advanced architecture and software processes are key to enabling these advanced vehicles to operate.

GuardKnox addresses automotive complexity with a patented, field-tested, secure Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) Framework that abstracts the specific hardware environment to address the complexities of network topology, communication, and implementation. Interactions between software components are therefore no longer hard-coded.

GuardKnox’s Secure SOA Framework also provides developers with the tool suite needed to automatically manage the software lifecycle within a vehicle, down to every ECU, while over-the-air (OTA) software updates can be used to securely update and re-configure the on-vehicle software. Automakers can thus harness the full power of a software-defined vehicle to keep up with the evolving demands of the industry, creating new revenue streams while simultaneously enabling shorter time to market.

“GuardKnox is proud to join the eSync Alliance, a group that is aligned with our core mission – providing the automotive industry with the technologies, products, and solutions needed to realize the Software-Defined Vehicle of the future,” said Moshe Shlisel, CEO of GuardKnox. “Over-the-air updates are a crucial component to furthering vehicle capabilities, and we are excited to be working hand-in-hand with leading alliance member companies to ensure a better and safer future on our roads.”

Mike Gardner, Executive Director at the eSync Alliance, said, “GuardKnox is a crucial addition to the eSync Alliance. With its SOA-based approach, the company is transforming flexibility, upgradeability, and vehicle personalization, enabling OEMs to develop breakthrough software for the automotive sector.”

The eSync Alliance is a global network of cooperating suppliers established to build a high-confidence, multi-vendor path for end-to-end secure Over-the-Air (OTA) updates and data services for the connected car. Its growing membership includes major Tier-1, automakers and semiconductor companies. These businesses are working together to build a standard bi-directional data pipeline from the cloud to electronic devices in the automotive market, based on cloud and embedded software for vehicles. eSync can deliver and update software and firmware over-the-air, and can collect real-time diagnostics and telematics data from end devices in the vehicle.
