The eSync™ Alliance is a non-profit trade association driving a multi-company solution for Over-the-Air (OTA) updates and data gathering in the automotive electronics space.
By working together in the Alliance, companies benefit from a simplified development environment made possible by a standardized but customizable OTA solution.
The Alliance is based around the eSync platform of cloud and embedded components, providing a secure data pipeline to devices within a vehicle.

By working together in the Alliance, companies benefit from a simplified development environment made possible by a standardized but customizable OTA solution.
The Alliance is based around the eSync platform of cloud and embedded components, providing a secure data pipeline to devices within a vehicle.
The eSync Alliance was born out of the recognition that the automotive industry needs to standardize its approach to cloud-to-edge connectivity. Dozens of different proprietary approaches from OEMs, Tier-1s, software and cloud vendors was leading to innovation paralysis. From this, our vision for a single standard, spanning across operating systems, in-vehicle architectures and applications was born – a single standard available to all members of the automotive ecosystem.
eSync is a standardized specification for a bi-directional data pipeline used for Over-The-Air (OTA) updates and data gathering in vehicles.
eSync defines the functional behavior of the server in the cloud, the client for the vehicle, and the agents for edge devices, as well as the APIs and messaging between these 3 levels. Compliance tools ensure that server, client and agent code developed independently can be interoperable.
Automotive OTA is hard. It's complex. It takes time, experience and a lot of engineering to get it right. But it should be a foundational capability of every automobile. The eSync Alliance provides the forum to work together and get it right.
The eSync Alliance seeks to provide the automotive industry with a common specification that can be implemented the whole or in part, by any member. Adoptees have access to a bi-directional data pipeline from the cloud to every edge device in the vehicle.
The Alliance was formed in 2018 by five established automotive suppliers in the automotive industry who saw the need for a standardized approach to Over-The-Air (OTA) updates and diagnostics in vehicles.
By early 2019, version 1.0 of the eSync specification had been published, making a significant step forward in the industry’s approach to automotive software. The first vehicles using eSync went into production that same year, signifying the immediate impact and applicability of the eSync Alliance’s standardized solution for OTA.
Common framework for how your reach any ECU from the cloud.
Draw upon the experience and knowledge of the whole industry.
Any part of the bi-directional pipeline can come from different eSync developers.
Layered security with independent assurance of payload integrity.
With all operating systems, technical domains, vehicle architectures, communication protocols, and cloud services.
With eSync there is a full and detailed specification - nothing is hidden.
The common framework adapts to different regional regulatory requirements through policy variables, requiring no change to the core specifications.
eSync can reach active and passive safety domains with maximum assurance of safe and effective updating.
